Sustainability at RWAU

We believe that every business has a part to play in supporting a more sustainable future. While there is always going to be more to learn and more we can do to be more sustainable, we have started our journey towards a greener future and there are a number of ways you can support us.

Our Contributions

100% compostable satchels are used for all satchel deliveries. Made from cornstarch, these are plastic free and 100% biodegradable and compostable. Bury them in the earth and in 90 days they morph completely into organic fertiliser.

All other deliveries are posted in recyclable cardboard boxes.

Our retail stores are collection points for used running shoes. All footwear we receive is donated to organisations who give the shoes to homeless shelters, crisis centres and indigenous communities among others. Bring in your old footwear and know that you're contributing to a great cause.

We recycle all carboard boxes we receive.

How You Can Do Your Part

The running community is blessed with environmentally friendly runners who have a great opportunity to model sustainable choices and advocate for a greener future. If every one of us makes an effort to champion sustainability, together we can make great change.

Some of our top brands were founded from a love of running outdoors and have channeled this passion to make great headway in the sustainability space. Whether it's manufacturing products from recycled materials or donating part of their proceeds to environmental organisations, we make a conscious effort to support these brands and back their initiatives.

You can do your part by selecting these products and brands. Choose to back these brands and initiatives and you will help us in striving for a greener world.

Brands with Sustainability Initiatives

We stock numerous brands with sustainability initiatives, below are some examples.

Patagonia

1% of sales is donated to environmental organisations around the world.

At least 1% of sales or 10% of pre-tax profits - whichever is more - is donated to environmental groups.

Janji

2% of proceeds from every purchase is put towards supporting clean water projects in the countries that inspire their seasonal collections.

Salomon

Their sustainability program covers four key areas: the products, the people who create the products, the places where the products are used, and the people who make up the communities of their outdoor sports.

The North Face

After discovering that the majority of their environmental impact comes from fabric processing and product manufacturing, they have chosen this area to direct their major focus through incorporating recycled materials into their products.

On

Their three key areas of focus are; moving towards recyclable materials in their products, reducing their GHG emissions and designing products "intended to live in a loop, not a landfill."

Adidas

Primegreen: a series of high-performance materials made from recycled ingredients.

Primeblue: a high-performance recycled material made partly with Parley Ocean Plastic—upcycled plastic waste from islands, beaches, coastal communities and shorelines, preventing it from polluting our ocean.

Products made using these innovations give you a more sustainable choice when you're choosing your running apparel.
